Sesca modernizes the electrification of the rail cars of Norwegian State Railways (NSB)

This agreement in question is so far the most considerable in the area of business of Sesca Traction.

Sesca Group Oy, that supplies and combines automation and ICT systems will provide Norwegian State Railways eight air conditioning and heating system electrifications for NSB trains. A Canadian company, Bombardier is responsible for the overall execution of this extensive modernization of the NSB train series.

The electric drive devices, that Sesca Traction supplies and installs, control the power supply of the air conditioning and heating compressors in the rail cars. The agreement is strategically a significant opening in the market of medium voltage (over 1kV) deliveries for rolling stock. The value of the deal is over 1.2 million euro and it is so far the most considerable agreement of Sesca Traction.

”This deal is strategically important to us, since it is our first medium voltage delivery for rolling stock. High voltage deliveries require special competencies and certifications that only few companies have. For instance in the Nordic Countries we do not have competitors and also worldwide only few. This gives us a good position in this area of business and opens us new export opportunities.” says Tapio Wathén, the CEO of Sesca Traction.

Sesca Traction supplies electrification projects for stock on iron wheels, such as trains, tramlines and underground trains. Its clients are train operators and component manufacturers. In addition to Finland, Sesca Traction has clients in Norway, Sweden, Great Britain, Spain, Switzerland, Holland, Australia, Mexico and China.

For years we have systematically worked in the international market and now the work has started to show. In Finland there is comprehensive know-how on different areas of manufacturing rolling stock, such as rail cars. I believe that there is an extensive demand for this both internationally and also in Finland.” says Wathén.
